Bukola Olosunde

Meet Bukola

Madam Bukola is a very much hands on woman who plies her trade with deep conviction in the grace and mercies of God. As limiting as her education is, she is very much interested in learning new things and how it can further help her business in order for her to meet with financial obligations. Madam Bukola is a widow with children born in the year 1952.

At the onset of the training, madam Bukola’s trade was in the making of Antiseptic, Soaps and Olive oil. While it is not very clear how she is able to sell Olive oil, however she did mention that she had to undergo training to master the craft of soap making and antiseptic insecticides.

Of course, as is with most of the participants, her financial literacy level was almost nonexistent and her model had always been that all that she earns from selling is for the upkeep of the house. This model had not only made a mockery of all the hard work she had put into the business but has been the sole reason why her business was stagnant.

Learning during the training modules, her primary take home was knowing what overhead costs were and how to properly address them.

After a temporary set-back, she picked up her business in February, 2021 and started with an initial sum of N14,000 as start up capital. In the first month of training, her soap stock was valued at N45,000. With what she has learnt, she has been able to identify a distribution network that is amendable to her own strategy and now has bigger orders.

In keeping with the training where participants were taught how to discontinue bleeding businesses and explore alternative viable ones which is part of spotting trends, Mrs. Olosunde had to discontinue her antiseptic business which had the higher revenue. Her reasons were cogent as she alluded that the material cost of producing was at an all time high and it made no sense to tie down money like that without buyers willing to take up the increased cost.
